Fantasia by Escribà

2 weeks ago, I clocked in a very rare weekend date with the husband. I won a company contest and was awarded a pair of tickets to the show. Honestly, I totally have no clue what it was the contest for, or the prize… I took part in the contest because my colleague told me to and I entered for the fun of it.

The prize is a pair of tickets to Fantasia by Escribà. 

A wonderland of chocolates, cakes and pastry sounds yummy, so we decided to seek childcare aid from both our mothers and go for it.

I read about cotton candy clouds, and sweets and chocolates that I can eat along the way. Sounds like a real fantasy for a gluttony me. And you know what? It’s somewhat like a willy wonker fantasy land come true for me.

Greetings at the door. Now, at this point, the suspense was kinda killing. Everything looks mysterious, and there were cotton candy clouds over my head..

Took a #selfie in the queue and got photobombed by the husband. Could you tell he was “dashing” into my photo?

I happily jumped into the pretty background for a nice #ootd shot but it failed. The husband didn’t take a full profile shot like I think he would, and there were just too many people in the queue for me to want to take it again… and the smells of the wonderland overwhelmed me next.

WOW. I stood there for 10 mins in awe. I stared at the flowing chocolate, totally overwhelmed by the smell of it all. Rich, decadent chocolate that I would love to put into my mouth was flowing over the “rocks”. The chocolate smells so good!

We were each given a passport that I initially have no clue what it is for… then I realised, its to exchange for the sweets!

This was so yummy, and my favourite item at the entire event. #chocolatenottobemissed. We subsequently went for seconds and third rounds, and even packed some home for the kids!

The place was a literal zoo!  There were life sized giraffes, and elephants, apes, hippopotamus, crocs and more!

The rest of the exhibit is mostly historical information about the craft, the origins of the first shops and how the various creations ever made came about. The husband & I took a slow stroll and taking in all the information at a leisurely pace till our hunger interrupted us and we went hunting for food!

I was totally fascinated with this bacon leg, because the exterior looks pretty real, and the bacon strips looked pretty real as well and surprise, surprise.. the entire bacon leg is made of chocolate, both white and milk chocolate.

This hotdog bun looks pretty real, but its not the real thing. Its made of some jelly sweets stuff and it is totally weird to be chewing this because the taste totally throws me off. LOL.

There are loads of other stuff as well, one of which is my favourite shoes. The shoeaholic me just cannot wait to check them out.

The most amazing/life-like thing is probably the flowers created by Patricia Schmidt, crafted entirely on sugar. I was too busy staring at them and how real they are (as well as the price tags) that I totally forgot to take a picture of it. ARGH. They are probably the MOST expensive flowers I have ever seen, like a lily for 600+ bucks, encased in a glass dome somewhat like that stalk of rose in Beauty & the Beast cartoon. They are so pretty, I think they are something really worth spending time at.

While I wouldn’t describe the experience fun, the exhibition did wow me to a certain extent. It did open my eyes to the world of food crafts and sculpturing and how so many amazing things can be made…deceptive.

The tickets to the show ain’t cheap ($128 for adults, $88 for children below 12 and $388 for a family pack), you’ll get a passport which entitles you to exchange for 12 items to taste/consume. Considering that it features an array of food, loads of sweets/chocolate, beer and beverages (some of which requires 2 chops), it’s not that bad. Honestly, if I had to pay for the tickets, I would probably give this a miss because while I’m gluttony by nature, I don’t really care that much about the appearance. Taste is of utmost importance to me, and I’m not really that into pastry. BUT, if you are pastry lover, loves to bake and all, this is indeed an eye opener.

I really enjoyed the “zoo” part of the exhibition, mainly because the smells overwhelmed me so much, I feel like I was in lala land so that was my favourite bit of it all (and the chocolate fountain, of cos!). I am not sure if Fantasia will happen again soon (no information can be found on the website), but hopefully my post gives you an insight of what is there to see. Then again, I hope I didn’t post too much pictures to be a spoiler for the next show.

The husband and me both enjoyed an afternoon of couple time, and have loads of time to talk rubbish with each other and enjoying time off the kids. Even though it was just a few hours, I think we both enjoyed the break! Looking forward to more.
