Cycling at East Coast Park!

It’s been a long time since, but we finally did it! The husband & I made it back to East Coast Park for some outdoorsy fun, along with the kids.  To think we used to blade there very often, pre-kids. I have been wanting to go, but there was never a good chance – kid too young, preggers, 2nd kid too young etc. Now that they both are running and climbing all over, and Jerome can understand some bits of instruction… there is so much we can start doing!

Can you tell that I was A LOT more excited than the kids? Nooooooo… the kids were both equally excited, but this picture was just a *stoned* moment that the *ahem* photographer managed to capture.. and it was my only picture that’s decent.

I was also super nervous about riding the bike. I could cycle very well by myself (if I may say so), but I had never tried ferrying anyone, or any kid on a bike before. I guess I broke my own record by fetching one of the kid on the bike today for the entire journey that we clocked. #achievementunlocked

The kids were squealing and screaming in delight as we took off and I felt so excited for them too. We really need to do this more often and maybe, bring out my rusty blades and Jerry’s skate scooter as well so we can try the various permutations.

We cycled some distance before stopping by a shady spot for some snacks.

Super happy to be seeing the delight on their faces. Such, simple joy.

It was a little past noon, and the sun was really hot. We had planned to be there in the morning, but the kids weren’t that cooperative in the morning and we ended up reaching only at noon and the sun was a tad unbearable. I made the kids do water parade before moving off again after our snacks break.

He still has a bit of those chubby cheeks that I was so fond of when he was a baby. I hope he doesn’t lose them soon. We moved off again after the snacks, toilet breaks, diaper changes and water parade, and really loved the breeze that was blowing in our faces. The kids also got to watch people fishing at the jetty as well as peering into people’s tubs/containers to see the fishes that they caught.

Shortly after… one of the kid was a little silent and hey, this happened.

Jerome fell asleep on the bike.

It was so funny, I kept laughing and laughing. He just nodded off for his nap. Poor kid. He was super cute to watch though, all sorts of facial expressions while at it.

The husband had to cycle with one hand and support his head using the other.. I was joking and saying that we should bring along our inflatable pillow the next time.. can inflate and provide some support while he nap. I continued the journey chatting with Jerry.. and the next thing I know…

Jerry K.O. on me too!

It must have been a really funny sight because the people who were riding in the opposite directions kept smiling at us. One dad even lost his footing on the family bike while watching and I had to giggle to myself thereafter because it was really funny!

It must have been karma for laughing at the husband. We ended the cycling earlier than our bike rentals since both kids were sleeping and it didn’t make any sense to continue any further.

Poor kid. I know, me is horrible mum.

The husband & I then had a rather peaceful mini feast at the hawker centre while the kids napped in their strollers and it was really a fun day. I can’t wait to go back again some day.

Oh. I forgot to mention that BOTH the kids had a field time ringing the bell non stop! I tried to explain to Jerry that the bell is meant for warning people when there is danger or when the bike is coming through but he couldn’t help himself and kept playing with it. Argh.

I have got to say, ferrying Jerry on the bike is not that hard. Except for the additional weight on the bike that needs getting used to which makes maneuvering the bike a little harder, it is quite manageable for me. I almost had an accident for a few times though. Once, when Jerry suddenly stuck his leg out of the seat rendering it impossible for me to pedal, and the second time, when he decided to turn my handle bar into a different direction I was going causing me to lose balance for a split second before I recovered.

If you are not confident in riding with your kid in the child seat, do get the family bike! It looks really cool and there is minimal chance of getting into any sort of accidents since all other cyclists wills steer clear of the huge bike. The only thing I am wondering about is whether those bikes can go up the steep slopes….

P.s. I really love their singlet and outfit from Pumpkin Patch.

Hi there! Thanks for popping by. I'm Cherie, a ftwm (full-time working mum) to 3 lovely kids (2 boys & a princess) and my motto in life is to BE HAPPY. Sure, life isn't all that smooth but it's the mentality that counts, no? This blog documents my life. Or rather, snippets of my life that has passed me by. I love capturing life memories in the blog and being able to read back and laugh at myself (or anyone). I love to eat (A LOT), travel and paint my own nails so the blog is mostly about that. Is that considered lifestyle? Of cos, the family is also very much an integral part of me so there would be loads of memories about the husband and my kids - Jerry (9yo), Jerome (7yo) and Leia (2.5yo) and everyone else that's close to me. I like documenting the kids' milestones, their growing up years, their achievements (and sometimes, mine), and my struggles and battles with motherhood. It sure ain't easy. I love seeking out good food and travelling, is trigger-happy, love new gadgets, love exploring new places and strives to live life to the fullest. I aspire to travel the world as much as I can, to soak in the different sights across the various continents and visit all the Disneylands in the world (almost there!). Have fun reading and do drop me a comment to say hi! Love, Cherie Lim Find me on Instagram.
