Confused opposition party.

I’m not the politically savvy person and with the hype of the GE happening everyday (I hear the rally vehicles making their rounds).. I just cannot help it but tune in to the tidbits found on twitterverse/facebook/online and it helps that TODAY gives a rather comprehensive and up-to-date tweets about what’s happening at the rallies every night.

There’s just so much happening on the social media front for this GE as compared to the previous 2 elections I went through ever since I hit the legal age to vote (errm, am i giving my age away?!). I quite enjoy the funny bits of the rally speeches between the PAP and the various opposition parties and also the fantastic movie posters circulating around the net (not sure if you guys have seen it but it’s really well done – go check out mrbrown’s blog if you haven’t). somehow, the information circulating around everyday provide much insights for me, based on the topics that each party choose to bring up and rally about.

Some of them really makes me go.. Hur?! while some of them let me put on my thinking hat and goes..hmmmm..

Anyway, I digress. I am in the newly minted Nee soon GRC and it is contested by the worker’s party. That, I am quite sure. My dear friend, Bernice is also in the same area.. But guess what turned up in her house?

I don’t know about a GRC that has a 3-party fight in this GE. The only one that I know of is a single member constituency (its punggol east, if you wanna know).

And, errmm.. My point is, how to trust and and vote for the party that got it all wrong? They don’t even know the exact area that they are contesting in. And this, is like the biggest joke ever.

Except that it’s really not that funny. We are talking about future of the country, the well-being and quality of lives for the residents. How could ‘someone’ (or rather, some party) get it that wrong?

I leave it up to each reader to decide for itself. Anyway, it’s not affecting me since they are not contesting in my area anyway.

Hi there! Thanks for popping by. I'm Cherie, a ftwm (full-time working mum) to 3 lovely kids (2 boys & a princess) and my motto in life is to BE HAPPY. Sure, life isn't all that smooth but it's the mentality that counts, no? This blog documents my life. Or rather, snippets of my life that has passed me by. I love capturing life memories in the blog and being able to read back and laugh at myself (or anyone). I love to eat (A LOT), travel and paint my own nails so the blog is mostly about that. Is that considered lifestyle? Of cos, the family is also very much an integral part of me so there would be loads of memories about the husband and my kids - Jerry (9yo), Jerome (7yo) and Leia (2.5yo) and everyone else that's close to me. I like documenting the kids' milestones, their growing up years, their achievements (and sometimes, mine), and my struggles and battles with motherhood. It sure ain't easy. I love seeking out good food and travelling, is trigger-happy, love new gadgets, love exploring new places and strives to live life to the fullest. I aspire to travel the world as much as I can, to soak in the different sights across the various continents and visit all the Disneylands in the world (almost there!). Have fun reading and do drop me a comment to say hi! Love, Cherie Lim Find me on Instagram.

    hi

have you considered that they may have gotten wrong because the government redraws electoral boundaries before every election to benefit the PAP? This election 20 000 voters from opposition stronghold Houngang have been transferred to AMK GRC which is a PAP stronghold because Lee Hsien Loong is contesting there. Kaki Bukit has been transferred to Aljunied presumably to dilute opposition votes. The seedy part of Joo Chiat has been carved out of Joo Chiat SMC and merged with Marine Parade GRC, which is a PAP stronghold because of Goh Chok Tong. Oh btw, voters who vote Goh Chok Tong in will also end up voting Tin Pei Ling in at the same time. Now you realise how ridiculous the GRC system is may I ask is the opposition parties to blame or the ruling PAP? Think deep.

      Hi there.

firstly, i somehow get the impression that you think i am pro-pap. i may or may not be, but that’s not the issue here because it has zero significance to my entry which states that the opposition party (SDP in this case) is confused.

if you have read me rightly, i am well aware of the changes in the electoral boundaries and i did state that my GRC is newly minted (which obviously means that the lines has been re-drawn).

the case is simple. no matter if the lines has been redrawn, if, as a resident, i can get the new ‘boundaries’ lines correct and understand correctly which GRC i belong to, and which parties are contesting in my area, i would assume that the party who is trying to run for office in the area should know as well. afterall, it IS going to be their turf should they get elected, no? is getting confused an excuse and putting the blame on the situation correct in this scenario? running for office is a huge matter and it involves citizens entrusting people to do the best for their welfare and well-being for the country.

so, is it right to entrust a confused party in this case when they do not get the basics right? it’s too scary a thought.

a mistake is a mistake made, unfortunately in this case.

that said, i did ask each reader to decide for themselves, and besides, the said party is not even contesting in my area and even when i do want to show them my support, unfortunately, i cannot.

its unfortunate that i portray the impression that i do not think deep enough, but i see no reason in explaining myself anymore than i have done.

      🙂

It could be singpost actually… I bumped into the postwoman who said she had made 4 rounds (?!) that day as a result of the election. The postal routes aren’t the same as electorial divisions…
