Things Jerry Says #32 – Mummy is more important…

By |June 25th, 2017|

So, it’s the long weekend that everyone is looking forward to! I have been so busy, I haven’t planned what to do with it yet. We visited the National Gallery and checked out the much raved about Children Biennale 2017 and also the exhibition of my one of the artists I really like – Yayoi Kusama (totally worth visiting!).  And oh, Jerry wanted to visit the library.. which we forgot to, and when we realised, it was too late.

So, the conversation happened while we were driving home.. I was negotiating on pushing the library trip to the next morning, and the kid decided to add on more to the bargain…

J: How about after that (the library), we go Levon’s house (his cousin)?
M: But I don’t know if he is free and at home. Why do you want to go his […]

Things Jerry Says #31 – Wasabi No-Ginger has got a special sticker.

By |May 6th, 2017|

2017 really flew by! I thought we just crossed CNY and now it’s almost mid year. Hello month of MAY! Jerry turned 6 years old yesterday (already?!) and we brought him out after his school birthday celebration to pick a toy. I actually bought him a phone for his birthday (yes, I actually did!), but I guess the thrill of actually picking a toy personally is still fun.

He had a nice and enjoyable dinner at Nandos (he wanted chicken rice and I wasn’t willing to go to a coffee shop/hawker or actually eat chicken rice), and had fun shopping for his present(s). He came home happy with a Wasabi No-Ginger POP figurine (a character from Big Hero 6) amongst some other knick knacks like a book and a stuffed toy key chain. I had to mandate no opening of the toys in the car till we get home!

Things Jerry Says #30 – Must buy!

Happy 2017 and Happy Chinese New Year to all of you… if you are still reading my blog! I am not blogging as often as I would like to, but today.. i needed to blog this down pronto.

Jerry. He is turning 6 years old in 4 months and he loves reading and spelling (!). Or I think he does because he has been acing his spelling test every single week for 2016 in school. Am so proud of him actually. He can read by himself most of the time, off food labels, street signs and story books so I have also delegated the story book reading to him whenever possible. Makes life so easy for me. I only need to sight the words and make sure he is on the right track and both kids get entertained.

So, while we were in the supermarket today…

Jerry (J): Mummy, the chicken must […]

Things Jerome Says #1

By |January 16th, 2017|

I thought I have done a post on the things Jerome says, but apparently not. I am really tardy to update his progress, but mainly because they are so grown now and so aware of their surroundings (yes, including their pictures appearing on ipads/phones etc). In just 7 days, Jerome turns 4 years old. The speed time flies amazes me sometimes.

SO, needless to say, Jerome is… no longer the blabbering toddler that he is. Just the other day, he told me something camouflaged itself which is why we can’t see it. I forgot what the conversation was about, but I remember stopping myself on my tracks and asking myself if i heard it correctly. I know. I give my kid less credit than he is due.

The kid has grown to be someone cheeky, boisterous, greedy, super lazy (on keeping toys) and on some days, still totally a baby. His […]

Things Jerry Says #29 – Help me with the sticker.

By |November 21st, 2016|

Hello. I’m back here again. My blog has become a forgotten friend, it seems. In between, I have been busy with work (what’s new), training for a trekking trip in Nepal, doing the actual short trekking trip (my first!), training for a Spartan race, and then completing the Spartan race. I came back home today, tired, aching and badly bruised with battles scars to tell a story, but that’s the story for another day.

Amidst all these, my boy has slowly grown in many ways that I seemed to have failed to notice. This evening (while I just got home), he was asking for a piece of paper to draw something, so I opened up his art work box to take the paper only to realised that the box is in a mess. I gave him the paper he needed, and then emptied the box to do some spring cleaning […]

Conversations with the husband #17 – Just telling you only.

By |August 2nd, 2016|

It’s been more than a year since I wrote about a conversation with the husband. It is not that the conversations are not happening, more like I am too tired and lazy to write them down. This morning, while we were having breakfast at our dining table…

Me: Hey, I am going to Korea with my colleagues next May. Hmm, the exact dates are 13 – 21 May.
Husband: *shows a smirk*
Me: What?
Husband: Next year, I am getting the AP diver watch.
Me: Huh? That’s so random.
Husband: No ah, just telling you only… (laughs). My trip is happening in 2 weeks and I haven’t even plan yet. You already telling me that you are going Korea next year.
Me: HAHAHHAHAA. The air ticket got promotion!

Although he didn’t say anything out, I am PRETTY SURE that he is thinking in his mind, AGAIN?!

Oh, Oh, I suddenly remember about this conversation earlier this year where

Conversations with the husband #18 – My wife is a fight stewardess.

By |June 19th, 2016|

This conversation happened earlier this year, when I was updating the husband about my travel plans. It was early January and we just got back from a 3 day holiday in Macau. It was a surprise birthday holiday that the husband knew nothing about till 48hrs before flight time. I wish I could keep the surprise till we reach the airport but unfortunately, it is not very possible with kids in the picture. There are logistics to shift them in with the gramps before the trip happens and packing their stay over bag would be a huge giveaway. Nonetheless, the husband was *still* surprised.

So, immediately after the Macau trip, while I was packing for my Korea trip that’s happening in a matter of hours then..

Me: Oh, I forgot to tell you that I am travelling to bangkok in March or April.
Husb: Huh? Again?
Me: Err.. ya..
Husb: You just came back […]

Things Jerry say #28 – Ah! I know!

By |April 2nd, 2016|

So Jerome has been rather expressive and talks a lot more fluently lately. It is somewhat a joy to hear him speak in proper sentences and explaining himself at times..

Last night, a hilarious exchange happened. Jerome had a bag of bread bits which he treats like a bag of treasure. This kid loves his food and is forever eating non stop. One moment, the bag was full and the next moment, he has only 2 pieces left..

Jerome: Mummy! I got 2 pieces left. One for you and one for me.
Mummy: Oh, that’s very nice of you. Thank you!
Jerome: *Flashes a smile and goes on with doing his stuff*

I headed to the kitchen where Der is and asked randomly…

Mummy: Did Jerome finish the entire bag of bread by himself?
Der: Ya.. (and excitedly) and he has 2 pieces left.. he say one is for me and one for him.
Mummy: REALLY?! I thought he said it was meant […]

Things Jerry Says #26 – Knock knock, Who’s there?

By |October 7th, 2015|

It’s been a LONG time since I last posted a “conversation” series post. It’s not that the kids haven’t been saying anything funny or worth recording, but I have been so busy in the past months that I never got round to doing it… and I can’t remember those conversations anymore. Regrets that a full-time working mum has to deal with.

So, last week, I came home one night really late (midnight) and was lazy to fish out my keys when I saw the living room light on. I knocked at the door and here’s what happened!

Mummy (M): *knock knock*
Hears a commotion in the house with the husband telling the kids to open the door..

Jerry (J): (behind the door) mummy is it you?!
M: Yes, it’s me. Please open the door. Thank you!
Little fingers fumbles with the door knob and many seconds later.. a tiny head popped […]

Things Jerry Says #25 – About sickness and death.

By |April 30th, 2015|

April is the month where Qing Ming Festival (Tomb-sweeping day) happens. Each year, tonnes of people make their way to clean up tombs of loved ones or make trips to pay respects and offerings within the month of April. On one of those weekends, the husband went to pay his respects to his grandpa. He left the kids with my mum because my mum didn’t want the very young kids to go near cemeteries and columbariums.  I was stuck at home as I have been really quite sick the entire month and was told to stay home to rest.

Just as Der was leaving my mum’s place, this conversation happened.

Jerry (J): Papa, where are you going?
Papa (P): To visit my grandpa.
J: Your grandpa is sick?
P:: No, he is dead.
J: What is dead?
P: Dead means the person die already.
J: Why die?
P: Old already, then die.
J: Is it like Mr. Lee Kuan Yew?
P: Yes.

When […]
