Crab in da Bag – #GotMeat or #NoMeat?

So, I dated my bimbo girlfriend to go Daiso shopping at Kallang Wave tonight and when we were done… we were wandering around wondering what to eat for dinner and we chanced upon the Crab in da Bag signage.  Irene says she hasn’t tried it before so I was happy to oblige since I love seafood.

In case you haven’t heard, just days ago, the Crab in da Bag Sports Hub branch recently got into FB saga over a 2-star review. I have my reservations about the review because I normally would ask how big or how heavy the crab/prawns when I order seafood in any restaurant. These stuff are usually priced seasonally right? Then again, it might be just me and my weird buying practice. Tell me if you do ask or just buy it blindly?

Anyway, since we were there.. we decided to be funny and do a survey. We ordered mussels, clams, a Sri Lanka Crab and some prawns. When we were looking through the menu, the staff kindly explain to my noobie friend on how to order, what is not available and also mentioned that the Sri Lanka Crab is slightly smaller so it will be priced at $45 instead of the usual $55. We were also informed of the weight, but I can’t recall what it is anymore. Pardon my brain.

The food looks pretty decent. Having dined in Cajun Crabs, Dancing Crabs, The Boiler, I think the portions are pretty similar. Wearing our aprons and all ready to tuck in!

We wanted to see if the mussels has no meat claim is true, so we set aside a #NoMeat corner and a #GotMeat corner on the table, and faithfully put each clam shell in the respective corner after we ate. For each standalone clam/mussel meal that came without the shell, we also shifted a shell from the #NoMeat section to the #GotMeat section. So… at the end of our clams and mussels bags, here’s the verdict!

Crab in da Bag - Mussels/Clams got meat or no meat verdict.

Only one lone clam shell that came without the meat. Not that much of a variance, and Irene and I decided that it is well within our threshold! You can decide if this is within the threshold of tolerance. Everyone has different threshold so I am not about to impose mine on you.

We were also given a bit of spiced rice to try with our Caboodle Mix sauce that our Sri Lanka crab came in.. Here’s Irene taking a whiff of the spiced rice.

I have to say this is pretty interesting and has a really refreshing taste. I kinda enjoyed it so if you are ordering the Caboodle mix sauce, so order some spiced rice, and ask for some lemon to try this!

Ended the meal with a dessert on the house, honeydew slices with jelly. So full we barely can walk. *burps*

#Selfie, just because the dessert is so pretty!

And oh, I am so totally on theme with the restaurant… don’t ya think so?!

Disclaimer: This is just a random dining post and it is in no way sponsored or affiliated. It was really just a pure coincidence that we decided to choose to dine there, and my dear friend just challenged me to blog because my blog is so dead and it needs some new life in the year 2016 and we really do think it’s quite funny not to share. Don’t think too much and make your own judgement call!

Hi there! Thanks for popping by. I'm Cherie, a ftwm (full-time working mum) to 3 lovely kids (2 boys & a princess) and my motto in life is to BE HAPPY. Sure, life isn't all that smooth but it's the mentality that counts, no? This blog documents my life. Or rather, snippets of my life that has passed me by. I love capturing life memories in the blog and being able to read back and laugh at myself (or anyone). I love to eat (A LOT), travel and paint my own nails so the blog is mostly about that. Is that considered lifestyle? Of cos, the family is also very much an integral part of me so there would be loads of memories about the husband and my kids - Jerry (9yo), Jerome (7yo) and Leia (2.5yo) and everyone else that's close to me. I like documenting the kids' milestones, their growing up years, their achievements (and sometimes, mine), and my struggles and battles with motherhood. It sure ain't easy. I love seeking out good food and travelling, is trigger-happy, love new gadgets, love exploring new places and strives to live life to the fullest. I aspire to travel the world as much as I can, to soak in the different sights across the various continents and visit all the Disneylands in the world (almost there!). Have fun reading and do drop me a comment to say hi! Love, Cherie Lim Find me on Instagram.

Enjoy reading about the adventures you and Irene get up to! The spice rice looks so delicious. Ahhh so mystery solved about the meat vs no meat! 🙂

Being bad in managing social media relations doesn’t equate to being bad in doing what they do best – serve good seafood in a fun way. Reading the comments here, I do feel that they have done a pretty good job seeing how most people had good comments here!

The 2 of you are so funny lah! Dining out in Singapore isn’t cheap, and I feel a lot of middle-range establishments struggle to find a niche within the market. We ate at Crab in Da Bag at Big Splash quite a long time ago and thought it was not bad!

I had it a few times too. It can be quite pricey depending on what you order but I guess “ang moh” seafood mostly this kind of price! The concept is fun mostly.

Thanks for agreeing to come out and splurge money at last minute notice. Appreciate it a lot!! I’m not troll please, I just want to check it out for myself!

Why you and your bimbo friend never ask them why got missing meat in one clam? 😜 Funny article in view of the incident. You two must have enjoyed the meal! 👍

cos we feel it seems reasonable for 1 clam not to have meat. Even if you buy in supermarkets, there can be hit and misses mah! Besides, we were there as diners, not bloggers writing a review! The meal was ok. the company is the fun bit. =)

my family dined at Crab in the Bag 2 years ago (in another outlet) and it was quite pleasant . Found the price on the high side but it was an experience then 🙂 Didnt even realised the ‘hot’ news till I saw Irene’s blog. Really like your got meat vs no meat photo. 🙂 I didnt recall missing any of the meat when we dine. 😀

This isn’t my first time dining here either, I really didn’t think it is that bad. Agree that it might be on a little pricier side if you ain’t used to splurging on seafood.

I enjoyed reading both yours and Irene’s adventure date night at Crab in da Bag. The food looks yummy and it’s good that you girls enjoyed the experience. I didn’t know that they have an outlet at Kallang Wave Mall… because I only saw one at Big Splash once before. Thanks for sharing this. Perhaps I might jio my husband for a date here, hehe 🙂

Both of you are looking like a brand ambassador for them and outfit totally match with theme. I would love to try it but not a seafood fan.

Hi Cheire, would you mind to give me a call please, the founder of CIDB. My staff will provide you my cell number. Thank you!
