Browtisan – Perfect eyebrows, everyday.

I have been thinking about getting my brows done for a long, long time and I recently did it at Browtisan! I mad love my perfect eyebrows now and every day, I spend a lot less time in front of mirror preparing. The husband even commented that I get ready real quick! I reckon this has got to be one of the best choices I’ve made. Do you spend 10-15 mins on your brows every day? Or maybe lesser time but a lot of effort on drawing the perfect brows? You just got to read this post and my brow embroidery experience at Browtisan. So why do I want to get my brows done? Here’s a picture of bare face, and how my naked brows looked like.

My sparse, uneven brows.
My sparse, uneven brows.

One side of the brow is much shorter than the other, resulting in one having an arch, and the other, arch-less. I also suffered quite a few chicken pox scars at my brows and some part of it has hair missing as a result of the scar. Here’s my brows up close. Do pardon the pimple!

My brows on both sides are totally uneven, and shaped differently. I go through pain everyday to make my brows look even. Sometimes, even after 15 mins or so, they still look like crap. If I can only choose to use 1 make-up item to use a day, it would definitely have to be my brow pencil. Not that I actually have a lot of make-up slapped on my face, but you get the point I am driving at, right? I will share the entire experience in detail in this blog post, but in case you haven’t had much time to read through everything, here’s some questions that I have been asked about my brows that I’m sure you would like to know too!

  1. Is the process of eyebrow embroidery painful?
Nope. Not at all! Numbing cream is applied before and I don’t feel any pain. There might be slight tugging at times, but totally bearable.
  2. Will it bleed?
Nope. If done properly, it shouldn’t. Eyebrow embroidery only touches the epidermis of the skin and not the deep tissues so there would be no bleeding or scarring.
  3. Can I choose the shape of the brows?
Somewhat a yes. You can tell your Browtisan (Brows artisans) your preference and they will advise if it is suitable for your face or suggest possible shapes that you would be able to take.
  4. Does it look natural?
I opted for the stroke by stroke brows and it look absolutely natural. It is as though I had new hair planted on my brows and they appear magically! Hmm.. I would say, a picture says a thousand words so see for yourself all the pictures I have.
  5. Is it permanent?
It is semi permanent, since it only touches the epidermis layer of your skin, nothing like an eyebrow tattoo that would last forever. Then again, you don’t want it to because brow trends changes with time. See next questions for lasting power.
  6. How long would it last?
It varies from person to person and depends largely on the skin type. It wouldn’t last as long if you have oilier skin. I was told that my brows would probably last me 3-4 years (with touch-ups) and I have combination skin.
  7. Is it reversible?
It actually is! Technically speaking, it’s correctable. But I wouldn’t recommend it honestly. You should be absolutely sure about the brows that you would like to have or be entirely satisfied with your brows before proceeding, because the removal part is tedious and expensive.
  8. How much does it cost to get my brows designed?
Details at the end of the blog post!

(Note: The above answers are based on my own experience at Browtisan or answers that I have been given during my session. If you have more questions to ask, just leave me a comment and I’ll try my best to answer or find out for you.)

Now, ready for the details? First things first, numbing cream is applied before any consultation! If you have any makeup on the face, it would cleansed before numbing cream is being applied. There is no feeling when the numbing cream is applied, and I can still #selfie while at it.

Once that is done, the Browtisan will start designing the brows! Coco, the Chief Creative Officer at Browtisan and a veteran in the eyebrows and facial grooming industry with more than 20 years of  experiences designed my brows for me. She constantly researches and develops new eyebrow techniques and has perfected her stroke-by-stroke skills of eyebrow embroidery. She also trains and imparts her skills to aspiring aestheticians in the art of brow crafting (both local and overseas) and a lot of people in the industry are all trained by her. She has also done brows for some artists before and I know I am definitely in good hands judging from what I have seen.

Lucky me, I know!

If you see the above picture closely, you would be able to see the fine lines that Coco drew on my right brow. I opted for the stroke by stroke brows so she doesn’t colour-fill my brows. Instead, she draws in fine lines to mimic fine hairs alongside with my real brows. She also designs it based on my natural brow shape , taking into consideration other issues like age, occupation, skin conditions and complexion. The results look super natural and super real, as though they are perfectly natural. Here’s a close-up view of the brows sample that she drew while designing my brows. Can you see all that thin lines looking like fine hairs?

Korean brows are all in the rage now, but not everybody is suited for it. I’m not for fashion brows trends as they get dated with times so I didn’t ask for one. Turns out, I am quite suited to take the korean brows look and Coco designed that for me first (see left of picture below). I wasn’t quite sure if I really like that because its the first time my brows was drawn that way. I wanted a brow with a little more arch to make me look slightly more alert and she tweaked it my other brow so that I could compare. What do you think? I had a hard time deciding!

I eventually chose the brow design on the right side (of pic) because I think I looked a little more alert with arched brows. Coco then drew both side to perfection under my scrutiny and once I am fully satisfied with them, before the actual embroidery. Here’s some other brow designs that you could choose from… but I totally recommend the stroke by stroke option because it looks so much more natural!

Once you are satisfied with your designed brows, you’ll be lead into a room to have your eyebrows embroidered in total privacy. I like that I can be in total comfort and be at ease while my brows are being worked on.

The staff in Browtisan are all fitted with a pair of special magnifying glasses to help them with the intricate work on the brows, so precision is much guaranteed when every single strand of hair on the brows is microscopically amplified. A new blade is also used for every single customer so there is no contamination risk. The premise is also sterilized with infrared technology for the highest level of hygiene.

During the process of brow designing, I found out the company’s philosophy is to strive for excellence and Coco has very high expectations of herself as well as her staff. They would refuse customers if they feel what the customer want or insist on having is not suitable for the customer.  I was quite piqued with that, because… it made no business sense to turn a paying customer away. But, that’s how high their expectations for excellence is.  They would rather turn away business than to deliver against their professionalism and let a paying customer leave feeling unsatisfied. So much pride in their work.

Coco also believes in giving back to the society and gives free eyebrow embroidery to cancer patients to boost their confidence. I thought that was really a great idea!

Midway mark – One brow done, one more to go!

Done with one side, one more side to go! I look eager beaver here! Couldn’t wait to see how it looked like at that point in time.

There is no pain in this. You can feel the “cutting” and slight tugging of skin, but it is really painless. I could still smile in this photo as you can see. I can’t remember what I was smiling about but I was chatting with Coco throughout the entire sessions and bombarding her with loads of questions.

Pretty brows almost done!

Almost there! Coco adding final touches to my brows while I savour the last few minutes of comfort.. I have to say they really make you comfortable, providing pillows to rest our legs on so that it is not as unbearable to lie down straight. After which, I sat up and let Coco check and do final checks! Oh, by the way, they would also trim your brows to neaten it.

Here’s how it looks like once its done, and a Before & After picture for comparison! Can you see how different it is and how much “fuller” my brows are?

And here comes my favourite picture! Looking like 蜡笔小新 (Crayon Shin-chan) here! Cute anot?! The dye is left on the brows for another 10 mins so that the color is more intense.

So what do you think? Need for eyebrow pencil no more!

If you see closely, the previous redness disappeared within minutes and look how natural it is. Right after the brow embroidery, you can just walk out and go shopping with no downtime at all. The team at Browtisan shared with me on the after-care, what to take note of and how to take care of it so that your brows would last much longer.

I left a happy girl, but not without a picture with Coco!

And oh, totally random – Did anyone realised that Browtisan’s logo is made of eyebrows and eyelashes? I initially thought it was like an emblem of sorts, until I was looking through the pictures again before making the discovery. So cute lor!

What to expect after that?

The eyebrows still start to heal over the next 7 days. It will get a little itchy, just like how newly formed scalps of wound feels like. I applied an after care serum and kept it out of water for 7 days using surgical waterproof plaster when I bathe or wash my face. Water will cause the brows to fade faster so keeping it out of water makes the brows a lot more lasting. Around the 2nd or 3rd day, the brows does get a little darker for a few days and I went around looking like I had super dark brows. It might also look a bit thicker than you might want it to be, but it’s normal because when the scalps all flake, you’ll get a super nice natural-looking set of eyebrows left!

What can I say? I TOTALLY, TOTALLY LOVED IT! It is super low maintenance, I don’t even do anything to my brows at all.

Hi there! Thanks for popping by. I'm Cherie, a ftwm (full-time working mum) to 3 lovely kids (2 boys & a princess) and my motto in life is to BE HAPPY. Sure, life isn't all that smooth but it's the mentality that counts, no? This blog documents my life. Or rather, snippets of my life that has passed me by. I love capturing life memories in the blog and being able to read back and laugh at myself (or anyone). I love to eat (A LOT), travel and paint my own nails so the blog is mostly about that. Is that considered lifestyle? Of cos, the family is also very much an integral part of me so there would be loads of memories about the husband and my kids - Jerry (9yo), Jerome (7yo) and Leia (2.5yo) and everyone else that's close to me. I like documenting the kids' milestones, their growing up years, their achievements (and sometimes, mine), and my struggles and battles with motherhood. It sure ain't easy. I love seeking out good food and travelling, is trigger-happy, love new gadgets, love exploring new places and strives to live life to the fullest. I aspire to travel the world as much as I can, to soak in the different sights across the various continents and visit all the Disneylands in the world (almost there!). Have fun reading and do drop me a comment to say hi! Love, Cherie Lim Find me on Instagram.

      Hi Zoe!

Long time no “see”! Good to have you here. Hmmm, I have done extensive research on erabelle because I had also wanted to get my brows done there before I got sponsored. But all of the brows I have seen done by them are mostly coloured filled in type and it feels more like a brow penciled brow than a natural brow.

I do like browtisan’s stroke by stroke method because it does look like strands of hair and looks very natural even close up. I guess that’s the main difference between the 2. That said, “natural” does come with a heftier price tag..

Other difference include browtisan being a new start up (but the lady boss is a veteran and its staff all had at least 3 years of experience working with her) and erabelle being quite established and winning quite a lot of awards. In terms of processes and procedures, the latter is a lot more polished. Browtisan is more customer focused and caters to the customers individually.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions! Happy to answer if I can. Meanwhile, I’m waiting to see how long my brows can last me but if you are keen, I’ll say go for it (especially now that December comes with a discount if you quote my blog). If you do go, share with me the before and after! 🙂

    Hello Cherie!

I would like to ask, regarding it being semi permanent, how will it turn out if I decide I do not want to continue after my first session? How will the “cuts” of the embroidery end up?

Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
