Shape Run 2014 with Skechers!
Shape Run is here again for 2014! I started out participating in the Shape Run by running individually (official photos here) many years back, and then I took part in the stroller run last year, and this year, I participated in the Mini Me Race! How things have changed!
So, I enrolled in the 1.8km Mini Me race and was sooooooooo excited about it, but guess what?
I TOTALLY MISSED THE RACE. :(((((((((((((((
How could I right?!?! I was equally upset about it. The night before.. the boys were totally cranky and didn’t settle till 2+ in the morning. I was so thrashed and tired from putting them into bed, and texted Estella to give me a call in the morning because I got a feeling I won’t wake at 6am. I set 5 alarms and went to bed, and SLEPT THROUGH all the alarms. Not just me, the entire household slept through it. When I woke, it was 7.40am, 5 minutes away from face flag off. I jumped out of bed, woke the hubby, brushed my teeth and changed in super sonic speed, bundled up the kids and ran.
We reached the race venue at 8.05am, some 20 mins after race flag off. I asked the race marshall if I can still join the race (its not over yet) and start running there and then and I was told I can’t.
Jerry was so upset, and he kept telling me he wanted to race…. and there was nothing I could do about it, except to carry him to some 40 metres away from the finishing line and had a mini race with him towards it. He enjoyed it tremendously though, and kept telling me..”mummy, AGAIN!”. We ran 2 other times after that.
We did managed to catch my friends at the finishing line though, and wave them in as they ran past the finishing line. It sure is a different experience altogether!
Despite missing the run, both Jerry and me did managed to clock in some run, while RACING to the race starting point after daddy dropped us at Beach Road. We just kept running towards the starting point hoping to make it to the race still. I was still hopeful then because I really wanted to race and you know, sometimes, the race flag off times will get delayed right? Apparently, they were very punctual that day.
We probably clocked in 1km while running to the starting point, and there were times where I carried the boy and ran too. I guessed we had fun in our own little way, while soaking in the race atmosphere at the venue.
Jerry & I wore matchy shoes – bright, neon running shoes from Skechers. I really loved my pair of running shoes and probably, the lightest pair I ever owned. I went to weight my pair of shoes and it is only 180grams! I was very impressed by how light and comfortable the shoe was while I ran. The shoe provided adequate support and I found running in them easy. It almost felt like I wasn’t wearing any shoes and could bounce off to anywhere I could. I especially noted that the mid-heel area held my feet snugly while I ran, but my toes and fore foot had a lot of room to spread, to grip and push off in every step. The mesh material was also very stretchable and my feet didn’t feel heated/hot at all the entire time while I was wearing it. Me loves. Imma very impressed!
Jerry’s pair is a little heavy to my liking (after all, my pair is so light!), but aesthetically, I like how it looks. It is one of the older models that Skechers has, but the simple, clean design and the bright colors won me him. He chose the pair of shoe himself and wouldn’t settle for anything else except the GOrun Ride 3 for kids, which, unfortunately was too big with its smallest size at size 11. I was pretty bummed that he couldn’t fit cos I was so looking forward to finally have something matchy matchy with him! Hopefully in time to come, he can own a pair too!
I spent the rest of the morning catching up with fellow mummy bloggers/friends and we ended the morning with a group shot at the Skechers booth because we were all wearing Skechers that morning.
At the race venue, I eyed another pair of running shoe and swooned over it for a long while! It is so gorgeous looking! I know running shoes typically ain’t described as gorgeous, but this really is! I didn’t have my wallet with me that day (Argh, there were discounts especially on race day) and couldn’t get it so here I am, lusting over it again. This would so match my GShock.
I’m so getting my hands on that the next time I walk past a Skechers store. One last picture of us taking at the race venue! Jerry is looking totally stoned here!
It started to drizzle and I was getting a little paranoid about repeating the Cold Storage Run incident and quickly said our goodbyes and started to head towards beach road where Daddy parked his car. While at it, I spotted some mimosa plants on the way and took the opportunity to teach Jerry something that I used to do as a kid. Poking at the mimosa plants and watching them close their leaves. I remember doing it a lot when I was young, but I think the kids these days don’t do that anymore!
Ending this post with one last picture of my wide-eyed kid, looking all sweaty and happy! My dear kid has grown so much, it is just amazing to watch him and interact with him now.
P.s. The Gorun Ride 3 running shoes is quite worth the moo-lah and super easy on the pocket since it is only retailing at $159! The Skechers stores are currently having national day promotion as well so do check them out fast if you are keen.
Kudos to the Shape Run team for the mini version of the race bibs for the kids (they fit so nicely on their tiny bodies) as well as the kiddy sized medals because its oh-so-cute! 🙂
Disclaimer: I was invited to participate in the Shape Run 1.8km Mini Me Run by Skechers Singapore (who is one of the co-presenters of the race) and was given a pair of Gorun Ride 3 running shoes (which was awarded “Best Buy” by Runner’s World Magazine) and a pair of Skechers Running shoes for Jerry to run the race in. No other form of compensation was received except a morning of fun and lovely conversations. All photos are copyright of cherieladie unless otherwise credited.
