Shape Run 2015 – 1.8km Family Fun Run for the Choos!
[Sponsored Post]
We’ve clocked in the first family run this year with Shape Run 2015! This year, we are pretty pleased that the Shape Run introduced a new category 1.8km Family Fun Run. So different from the previous years where I am the only one running with the kids and the husband is at the sidelines (read our 2014 Shape Run & 2013 Shape Run experiences).
Guess who was the most hyped up person? The husband of cos! He’s into running these days and is always competing with me the distance he has clocked. He’s super happy that he doesn’t have to hang around and wait for the race to end.
We arrived way before the flag off time this year because I didn’t want to disappoint the kids and let last year’s incident repeat (we missed the race). We had a bit of time to wander around and take pictures with mascots.
I love this picture! Jerry saw the mascot coming and scooted way in fear but Jerome was totally oblivious that the mascot was creeping up behind him. He was just happy with his balloon and smiling away for the camera, but totally freaked out when he turned around after we finished snapping the pictures. The look on his face was priceless. He froze for a split second and turn to run!
We made our way to the start line and guess what? The boys were so hyped up, they were already running before the race! I was so worried that I might lose them! Totally forgot to write the emergency contact at the back of their race tags this time round. Can you spot the boys in the picture below?
Bumped into my friends and their families at the start line and what do we do? We SELFIE! Yes, even though the sun was quite blinding. It’s the 3rd race that the 4 mummies are racing together as well. How our kids have grown since!
And I just had to take another selfie with the family. The boys were avoiding the sun too! Too glaring!
The horn sounded shortly after and we were off! The boys just ran, and ran…
After a while, the heat was getting a little unbearable, and the boys are constantly asking me for their water bottles. I was the official photographer for the family as well as the bag person holding all the snacks/water to power the kids through the run so I don’t think there was any pictures of me running! We ran together with Estella’s family, and as usual, we had to clock in a selfie mid run.
I liked the route this year. It feels a lot more spacious as compared to previous years, and the scenic blue sky made the run very enjoyable. Not so much the unbearable heat though.
Jerome got worn out after a while, and daddy had to carry him. Jerry was sporting and continued running by himself, alongside daddy. I like that he really put in effort and tried his best. Like so.
And then, I think the heat got to him, because he went to hide in the shadow of the divider at the side of the road. Even though he was not fully covered, I think it was his way of coping. We were all quite amused by him on this.
Jerry eventually surrendered and I could tell he was really tired and even collapsed on me, so we ended the last bit of the race carrying the boys! I crossed the finishing line with Jerry on my shoulders instead, because it is easier for me to run, and also, more fun for him.
The boys were happy to finish the race and be rewarded with a cup of cold isotonic drink at the end as well as receiving their own medal for the run!
We totally love this year’s Shape Run, and although the kids didn’t complete the entire race themselves, it was good enough for me. I knew they tried their best, and the most important thing is, enjoying the process of it all. That’s all that matters, really.
We would love to take part in Shape run next year again, and hopefully, the boys would be able to complete the race themselves next year! We’ll be back!
P.s. Read on to find out my review about the Skechers shoes!
Skechers has very kindly sponsored the run for the family as well as our running shoes for Shape Run 2015. We picked up our shoes 1 week before the race at the Skechers store in Raffles City. and I was very excited because, the boys finally have proper running shoes!
Jerry & Jerome’s feet are still relatively tiny, so they can only fit the Skechers GOrun Ride – Go Too trainers for boys. I like that this time round, there is a range of GOrun series comes in much smaller sizes to fit my boys.
Jerome unfortunately, fell asleep for his afternoon nap so we only tried on the shoes while he is sleeping and didn’t get him to walk around in it. It works pretty well nonetheless because his feet is the exact same size as Jerry’s now.
I love the GOrun series of shoes because they are lightweight and flexible, and folds easily when they lift the heels of their feet and it isn’t too stiff. It’s so soft, and I haven’t gotten any complains from any of the kid and I didn’t observe any sores on their feet post wearing too. Both kids got the same pair of shoes in the same size and colour, and they keep reaching out for this pair when we head out! Am gonna have a hard time sorting out their shoes.
Both the husband & me got fitted with the new GOrun Strada. There are many colours available for this design and I eventually chose the grey one, and the husband chose the blue pair. The colours are totally different from what I am showing in this picture so do refer to the images taken during the run. I feel comfortable running in my pair. It’s lightweight and easy to run in. This pair has got a higher heel height as compared to my previous GOrun Ride 3 though, and it took me a while to get used to the height. Otherwise, it’s pretty perfect for me.
The husband loves his blue pair, the colours and designs are very much to his liking and it was comfortable when he ran with it during the Shape Run. However, it didn’t work as well for him when he wore it for longer runs though. The side of his soles felt a little sore, and I was surprised to hear since I have absolutely no issues. That said, the husband has got what I called the Hobbit feet – super broad feet and I guess that’s probably the reason why he felt a little sore by the sides. Well, he probably needs to find another pair that suits him better. The thing about shoes is that they are usually made with a ideal sample size for the majority of their target audiences, and it will not necessarily fit everyone nicely with the same pair. Which is why, the fitting and trying of shoes is important before buying. One just have to try the shoes for themselves and find the brand or the design that fits. Trust me, I know because the husband makes shoes too (albeit ladies ones)!
Disclaimer: The Shape Run participation is sponsored by Skechers and the family received a pair of Skechers shoes each for review purposes. All other thoughts are of my own.
