Fun night out at Sentosa’s Skyline Luge!

Have you heard about Skyline Luge Sentosa? YOU HAVEN’T?! HOW COULD YOU!!! Oh, I heard you wrongly? You meant you haven’t been there in a while? YOU SHOULD! 

I’m not joking when there are people who have no clue what Skyline Luge Sentosa is. They don’t know what they are missing out man! If you are one of them too, please read till the end of the post where I will be giving away family passes so you can go try it out! I can’t remember how many times I have been there, but here’s an entry I documented in 2005 about it when I visited with my besties! It has since been 9 years. And yup, the Sentosa Skyline Luge has been around for that long! They have been in operations for 9 years and that makes me one of them early adopters!

Skyline Luge Sentosa is this super-fun, adrenaline packed experience where you take a 320m long chairlift ride (think skiing resort type) up to higher grounds, and then descend with super sonic speed in a 3-wheeled gravity Luge ride that’s something like a cross between a go-kart and toboggan. Ok, I lied about super sonic. In whatever speed you like, because you control it. It’s my all-time favourite attraction in Sentosa! Rates really high on my fun-o-meter.

Truth is, I haven’t visited in a while, especially with young babies in the picture for the past few years. I kinda missed it so I brought the husband and Jerry out on a date at Skyline Luge Sentosa on one weekday night. We all clocked in a lot of fun, and Jerry just wanted to keep going on it non-stop. Like NON-STOP. I surrendered in the end and asked the husband to go with him the last few times before we called an end to the lovely night. Here’s some snapshots of the experience.. just to share!

One can catch the sun setting in the far horizon while taking a ride on the Skyride. I love the 360, panoramic view of island when I am up on the Skyride. It’s so lovely to see! Errm, that’s assuming that you don’t have acrophobia. If you do, my recommendation is just to look around and soak in the lovely sights, don’t ever look down at your legs and pretend that you are safe in a building…. because you really have NOTHING to worry about.

The Skyride boast of ZERO accidents in the 9 years of operations and I think that is a splendid record! In fact, it is a perfect record! See? There’s really nothing to be afraid of, maybe except for losing your slippers if you are wearing a pair. Hee hee.

She was holding onto the handle bar tightly and perspiring, and asked my husband if it was raining when she felt a drop of water on her thighs (its her own sweat!). Poor girl. But you know what? I applaud her courage for going on it for 5 times despite her fear and I think she went back another time with her daughter and went on it a few more times. #fearisnothing #yolo

Oh, remember to say cheese and smile when you spot a camera sign on the Skyride!

Looking at the pictures of my boy, makes me want to bring him there again. He was the happiest kid on earth that night and we literally had to drag him away when it was time to go home. Sorry kid, but bedtime is bedtime.

So, how it works is that you take the Skyride upwards, then jump off that, walk past the photo booth (you can choose your pictures and buy them on the spot if you like them), before popping down walkways to join the queue for the Luge ride. While at it, you’ll pass by a helmet station where you’ll pick a helmet of your size, wear it and wait for your turn on the Luge. When its your turn, you’ll get a quick briefing on how to operate the Luge, practice a few times on the spot and they’ll wave you off once you are ready! There are 2 tracks to choose from, and personally I find the dragon track more exciting because of the numerous curves and corners (I like to cut corners, pun fully intended) and the fact that it is longer, but the husband loves the Jungle Track cos he thinks the luge travels at a much faster speed less the curves and hence a lot more fun. Here’s a visual representation of how it works, just so it is easier for you to picture.

In recent months, Skyline Luge Sentosa went through their most extensive upgrade ever to further enhance the attraction and they changed out many things. The place has got a spanking new facade that’s way bigger. There are more ticketing counters (from initial 4 to now 12!) and more photo booth counters (from 4 to 8) to help shorten the wait times and to provide better service with high customers volume. The seating area at the facade got expanded as well, and most of them sheltered (or was it all?).

They also made some small changes that might slip our eyes, but definitely important. They lowered the ticket counter height, widened the width of the queue lines, and changed the layout of the walkways to make the space an accessible handicap-friendly space for all. Great thought there. I love handicap friendly places!

The Jungle Track was also fitted with thematic RGB LED lightings which explains why I’m green in one picture and blue the next and they have also increased from two to three tracks at the end of the rise for a more efficient turnover. You know, people tend to take their time to get out of the Luge and in the past, this area always gets clogged up and you will need to wait a while before you can reach the tail end of the track and surrender your Luge. With 3 tracks, there was no jam at all while we were there! Am sure the weekend’s experience would be much better than before too!

The other stuff that got upgraded was a new viewing gallery (you can stand there and check out your friends getting on the Skyride or zipping down the tracks and the space is available for corporate events too. There is also a new F&B kiosk added so if you ever get hungry between your Luge rides, you can grab a quick bite before going on more rounds. Writing this post makes me want to partake in that adrenaline-pumping ride again. Are you thinking about it too?!

By the way, I totally recommend going during the late afternoons where you’ll get to see the panoramic view in the daylights, catch the sunset while on it, and then check out the night view. It’s a totally different experience altogether and you’ll get more for your buck!
