Honest Fresh Milk is Greenfields Fresh Milk.

Milk, is a topic that I am passionate about, because I am a breastfeeding mum and have to milk myself a few times a day (heh, sorry too much info!). You can be sure that I am, therefore, obsessed with freshness, the handling, the exposure (to bacteria), and storage of milk because I only want the baby to consume the freshest of all milk to the best of my ability.

And I love drinking milk! Did I ever mention that I am a milk lover? I always have milk in my fridge and drink them all the time. In fact, I’m a milk guzzler because I can easily finish 1 litre of milk within hours. I simply love fresh milk. I always pop by the milk aisles in the supermarket and pop a carton or two into my grocery basket whenever I buy groceries.

And I have a question for each of you who buy milk! Do you ever read the labels on the milk carton boxes before buying?

I do, and let’s just say some of them don’t paint a nice picture… in fact, it scares the hell outta me with the long list of ingredients added in! Ain’t milk, milk anymore? I leave you to your imagination (or ask google, but hey, finish reading first!).

Greenfields recently sent me some cartons of milk for my consumption. I have to be honest here. I am quite brand loyal and if I find something nice, good, suitable or beneficial, I’ll stick to it. The same goes for my milk choice – why fix it when it aint broken? I have been a loyal customer to a brand of fresh milk in the market and have never tried Greenfields! But I was really game to give them a try because I really liked what I saw on their ingredients list.

Fresh Milk. I only drink brands that have only milk in their ingredients list.

I saw this advertisement on the train home one day… and I think it sums it all – milked and sealed fresh on one farm. And in case you are wondering. Greenfields integrated dairy farm is based in Gunung Kawi, Malang, in East Java and is situated 1,200 meters above sea level and has cool temperatures all year round. Being nearer also means it spends less time getting shipped to the retailing country and we get it faster, and definitely, fresher.

Jerry was the first to taste the milk. He spied it while I opened the fridge and was really a happy drinker. He started drinking fresh milk ever since he turned 1 year old and I don’t always give him formula milk. He drinks quite a few servings of fresh milk on a weekly basis, so him giving the thumbs up says something!

I loved the taste too. How do you tell milk is good? I don’t really know, but tasting fresh, is not artificially flavoured and doesn’t have any strong odour does it for me.

I also used the milk to do a little baking the other day (testing out the new oven in the new abode!) and it tasted pretty good! I baked some milk pudding and had loads of fun while doing it.

Looks good? Here’s the milk pudding recipe I tried if you are keen.

Ingredients:
500ml of milk
4 eggs
5 tbsp of sugar
Additional sugar to caramelize the pan

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 180%
2. Caramelize a pudding pan
3. Mix the sugar with the (warm) milk into a bowl.
4. Put the egg into a large colander and pour the milk and sugar over it. Help the mixture pass through the colander using a tablespoon
5. Eliminate what remains in the colander
6. Repeat step 4 for 4 more times
7. Pour the mixture into the caramelized pan and bake in bain marie till it becomes golden on surface
8. Poke through with a stick to see if its done
9. Chill in fridge for a couple of hours and serve.

Notes:
1. I was lazy and didn’t caramelize the pan. Instead I put it a thin layer of caramel sauce instead!(LOL)
2. I didn’t have a colander on hand so I used a sifter

Everything turned out alright, except that the egg-y taste is a little too strong. I would have preferred something milkier so I am going to try baking it again with lesser eggs! If you do try the recipe, let me know if it works for you!

I also tried the high calcium, low fat milk with my cereals and it tasted pretty awesome too! I think I want to try making ice cream with it next.

Ending this post with this article that I came across, which really speaks a lot about the freshest of Greenfields milk.

Greenfields Milk comes in variants of Fresh Milk, Chocolate Malt, High Calcium Low Fat (only 1.3% fat) and High Calcium Skimmed Milk (less than 0.1% fat). Available at most supermarkets at $5.95 for a 2-litre bottle (not available at FairPrice only), $3.25 for a 1-litre pack and $1.50 for a 200ml pack (at 7-Eleven stores only).

Hi there! Thanks for popping by. I'm Cherie, a ftwm (full-time working mum) to 3 lovely kids (2 boys & a princess) and my motto in life is to BE HAPPY. Sure, life isn't all that smooth but it's the mentality that counts, no? This blog documents my life. Or rather, snippets of my life that has passed me by. I love capturing life memories in the blog and being able to read back and laugh at myself (or anyone). I love to eat (A LOT), travel and paint my own nails so the blog is mostly about that. Is that considered lifestyle? Of cos, the family is also very much an integral part of me so there would be loads of memories about the husband and my kids - Jerry (9yo), Jerome (7yo) and Leia (2.5yo) and everyone else that's close to me. I like documenting the kids' milestones, their growing up years, their achievements (and sometimes, mine), and my struggles and battles with motherhood. It sure ain't easy. I love seeking out good food and travelling, is trigger-happy, love new gadgets, love exploring new places and strives to live life to the fullest. I aspire to travel the world as much as I can, to soak in the different sights across the various continents and visit all the Disneylands in the world (almost there!). Have fun reading and do drop me a comment to say hi! Love, Cherie Lim Find me on Instagram.
