Product Review – Scotch Kitchen Scissors from 3M + GIVEAWAY!

Want a pair of premium kitchen scissors? Scotch Kitchen Scissors from 3M is the perfect choice for you.

When 3M recently asked if I’d like to do a review for their kitchen scissors, I was beyond thrilled. It’s quite an apt product for a mother, don’t you think? Although I barely need to step into the kitchen since I reach home daily to find hot meals waiting for me at the dinner table (my mum is a full-time housewife), and often gets chased out of the kitchen by my mum because she cannot stand me pottering around HER kitchen…I do still cook when I get the chance and I love using good quality kitchen appliances after growing up with my mum’s strict standards of getting only good kitchenware. It’s a value she inevitably imparted to me since young. Her knives are all super sharp and when I sometimes do use someone else’s blunt kitchen knife, I bluntly ask how they survive the bluntness. Pardon the pun, couldn’t resist.

Anyway, I digressed. Here’s the premium kitchen scissors I am reviewing.

I wondered how it is going up against my mum’s favourite kitchen scissors, which she has been using since I was in secondary school. Of cos, we changed out many scissors but she kept buying back the same thing because it was good and trusty.

So what about this scissors that’s so premium? It claims to be a high-quality, electro-polished, corrosion-resistant kitchen appliance, which will enhance cleanliness and convenience.

And does it make you wonder about the qualities of the scissors that allow it to back the above claim…?

Nothing beats a pictorial representation. And accompanying explanation.

To combat growth of microbes and bacteria, 3M’s ScotchTM Kitchen Scissors’ Japan-made JFE SUS420J2 Stainless Steel is treated using 3M’s unique electro-polishing process for superior smoothness in comparison to generic stainless steel. The metal’s polished coat not only results in a higher tassle and increased hardness, but also enhances the material’s ability to resist corrosion.

Do you know the amount of bacteria that a simple pair of kitchen scissors can harbour? Ordinary stainless steel surfaces of regular kitchen scissors can become uneven over time, creating ridges and rough spots, which trap food residue. This makes conducive breeding grounds for bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella, and increases the probability of cooking contamination and food-borne illnesses! I kinda look differently at my mum’s scissors now and wonder how much germs it harbours! It has quite a bit of indentations here and there… With the 3M’s ScotchTM Kitchen Scissors, one don’t have to worry about the growth of the bacteria.

So, with a family BBQ I had organized some weeks back, I put the scissors to the test! I had to prep all the food with the help of my mum so the pair of scissors ended up being a great help as well! Look at all the food we prepped!

Cutting up and processing the fresh fishes for the bbq.

Snipping up the sotongs for sambal sotong..

Cutting up the stingray into pieces…

Cutting through it all. It’s pretty amazing. We pretty much used the scissors for almost everything that we prepared!

Even the chicken, and its bones!

I also use it to cut up banana leafs to wrap everything for the bbq..

It’s place at the preparation table.

I found it very sharp (i think it’s a given with all new scissors and I’ll have to see how it holds up over the next couple of months) and easy to use. I also love it that the inside of the handles has a slight rubbery coating so that the grip of the scissors is well maintained, making snipping a breeze.

The ScotchTM Kitchen Scissors is ergonomically designed with a symmetrical shape for comfortable cutting and shearing. Its micro-serration blades add an extra level of sharpness, so the device is strong enough to cut through meat and bones, yet delicate enough to snip fresh herbs and fruits.

and here’s my verdict about the scissors..
1. I like that its of a good size, making cutting easy for hands of all sizes (my brother, my mum, my husband and myself all used the scissors and found the fit comfortable)
2. I like the feel of the handles and the grip that it offers
3. Sharpness – it pretty much cuts through everything that I put to the test.
4. It’s detachable! I don’t know about you but I love detachable kitchen scissors. It makes washing them much easier.

I have yet to find any faults with it and am waiting to see if it lives it up to its claims in the months to come! meanwhile, its definitely having its place on the shelving where my mum keeps all her kitchen appliances.

ScotchTM Kitchen Scissors come in 2 functions – detachable ($19.90 with GST) and non-detachable ($15.90 with GST) and is available at all leading hypermarkets, supermarkets, D.I.Y stores and major bookstores.

Hi there! Thanks for popping by. I'm Cherie, a ftwm (full-time working mum) to 3 lovely kids (2 boys & a princess) and my motto in life is to BE HAPPY. Sure, life isn't all that smooth but it's the mentality that counts, no? This blog documents my life. Or rather, snippets of my life that has passed me by. I love capturing life memories in the blog and being able to read back and laugh at myself (or anyone). I love to eat (A LOT), travel and paint my own nails so the blog is mostly about that. Is that considered lifestyle? Of cos, the family is also very much an integral part of me so there would be loads of memories about the husband and my kids - Jerry (9yo), Jerome (7yo) and Leia (2.5yo) and everyone else that's close to me. I like documenting the kids' milestones, their growing up years, their achievements (and sometimes, mine), and my struggles and battles with motherhood. It sure ain't easy. I love seeking out good food and travelling, is trigger-happy, love new gadgets, love exploring new places and strives to live life to the fullest. I aspire to travel the world as much as I can, to soak in the different sights across the various continents and visit all the Disneylands in the world (almost there!). Have fun reading and do drop me a comment to say hi! Love, Cherie Lim Find me on Instagram.
