Shape Run 2016 X Skechers – 1.8KM Family Run done!

Hello! It’s been a while since I last sat myself down to blog. Life’s been busy – travels, work, and I recently picked up brush calligraphy and the piano! I hope to blog about all that soon, so do check back ok? I am still living life to the fullest and clocking in all sorts of experiences and it’s been pretty awesome so far.

Last week, the Choo Family was in the Shape Run! The kids were all psyched with the race ever since they received their new Skechers shoes some weeks back from the Skechers store in Ngee Ann City

The kids rocking in their new Skechers kicks which came with very cool flashing lights that were subtle enough that mummy here actually approves! If you know me in person, I am the type of mum that totally frown at cartoony, flashy designs or shoes that produces noise pollution… and I thought this new design was simple enough, colours perfectly paired for boys and comes with velcro straps that the kids can easily put on their own shoes without any assistance. Win.

Jerry love them so much, he wore his pair home straight from the store!

Der & me got to pick up our own pair of the newest GORun Ride 5 running shoes which are super lightweight, comfortable and with a variety of colours to choose from!

Back to the race. This year, I absolutely love the race venue! It was a beautiful morning all over, and I never realised Singapore’s downtown skyline is so pretty at sunrise. There were plenty of parking in the vicinity and they are pretty affordable as well (I’m talking about Marina Bay Financial Centre – $3.21 for 1st 4 hrs on Sun) and there was no need to jostle or wait for parking lots in panic like I usually do at the previous races.

The kids shielding themselves from the sun’s glare and I thought they looked pretty cute in their own ways. #biasmum

Us, all ready at the start line. Jerry has this “cool” look that he likes to wear in pictures these days. Anyway, the truth is, the boys run the race and I didn’t. Or rather, I couldn’t. I am still limping from the injury I suffered while in Burma. It’s been a month and it still hurts pretty bad. I wanted us to be there as a family, so I showed up to give the boys the support and started the race with them. Daddy brought them through the race while I limped along until the boys shot out of sight and sat down to rest. The GORun Ride 5 trainers that I was in provided adequate support for my feet and the memory foam soles was very cushiony. My heel actually didn’t hurt as bad that day. If only I can pair it with my office clothes!

I met the boys near the end of the race and was surprised at how fast they were. Almost missed them totally.

Jerome was obviously having a lot of fun. He was running in zig zags all over and sporting huge grins!

Jerry was less enthusiastic (he slept late the night before) and promptly sat down to rest when I asked for a picture!
Totally a skiver!

Me, limping past the finishing line with Jerry in tow.

Jerry was getting very grouchy towards the end of the race and kept telling me he is very tired. I didn’t let him stop and told him just take one step at a time. I also kept pointing to the finishing area and asked if he sees where papa and didi is and that we needed to hurry in case we lose them. When he finally crossed the finishing line, he perked up and ask if that meant he wins a medal!

AND… we completed the race! I didn’t hear the kids complaining about their shoes like they usually do when it hurts, so the shoes must have been really comfortable for them. The shoes are also extremely light and the kids can sprint around with ease. I must say that the Skechers kids’ shoes design have improved over the years and this is one of my favourite pair to date (the kids agree!).

The kids are so proud of winning their own medals and I am so proud of them for making it through yet another race! This is the first time they finished a race by themselves without asking mummy or daddy to carry them. Looking forward to more family races in the future, and hopefully, I would have recovered by then and can run the next race with them! After all, a family that runs together, stays together!

Read about our Shape Run race experience in Shape Family Run 2015, Shape Mini Mi Race 2014, Shape Stroller Fun Run 2013 and Shape Run 2007 where I took part as an individual. I lost count on the number of years I took part, but ahhhh… I have been growing with the Shape Run! Almost 10 years since I first documented a Shape run on the blog.

Meanwhile, good news for you if you are staying in the North! Skechers recently opened a new branch in Bishan and the stores are getting increasingly accessible. With 18 Skechers concept stores and 15 counters around the island, there’s just one round the corner wherever you go! Use their store locater to locate one near you now!

Disclaimer: The Choo family has been sponsored for the Shape Run as well as the cool kicks that we were all rocking in during the race. All photographs, comments, opinions and cute kids are of my own unless otherwise stated.

Hi there! Thanks for popping by. I'm Cherie, a ftwm (full-time working mum) to 3 lovely kids (2 boys & a princess) and my motto in life is to BE HAPPY. Sure, life isn't all that smooth but it's the mentality that counts, no? This blog documents my life. Or rather, snippets of my life that has passed me by. I love capturing life memories in the blog and being able to read back and laugh at myself (or anyone). I love to eat (A LOT), travel and paint my own nails so the blog is mostly about that. Is that considered lifestyle? Of cos, the family is also very much an integral part of me so there would be loads of memories about the husband and my kids - Jerry (9yo), Jerome (7yo) and Leia (2.5yo) and everyone else that's close to me. I like documenting the kids' milestones, their growing up years, their achievements (and sometimes, mine), and my struggles and battles with motherhood. It sure ain't easy. I love seeking out good food and travelling, is trigger-happy, love new gadgets, love exploring new places and strives to live life to the fullest. I aspire to travel the world as much as I can, to soak in the different sights across the various continents and visit all the Disneylands in the world (almost there!). Have fun reading and do drop me a comment to say hi! Love, Cherie Lim Find me on Instagram.
